“Human Settlement in Spain” Jiménez de Jamuz
The beauty of this place lies within its quiet simplicity.
Towards the end of the “COVID years” when travel restrictions were finally beginning to ease up and the doors to other countries were opening up to desperate travelers, I bought a non-refundable round-trip ticket from LAX - MAD, begged my mother to come with me, and the next thing we know is that we’re planning a three week trip in less than a week.
Luckily my mom is a tremendous researcher and travel planner, spending hours upon hours — from her first sip of coffee in the morning to her last drop of her evening wine glass (or glasses) — hooked on the computer discovering the oh so many places we can go and the things we can do that fall away from the typical touristy bore. Sure enough the discovery of this “town in Spain” is definitely a consequence of her hyper-focus mind and one that I am happy to have experienced with her.
Jiménez de Jamuz is a town, or a human settlement as Google defines it, of approximately 800 people. This is the type of place whose silence penetrates and resonates deeply. That extreme serenity might feel intimidating, but settle in, and you’ll see it as a gift. Only a three hour northwest drive from Madrid, this little haven is well worth the drive and overnight stay.
