A stop in Jiménez de Jamuz— “Town in Spain”
A “Town in Spain” says Google search in such a matter-of-factly tone, or so I interpret, that I could almost see some eyes rolling as I read it and
although it is in fact an absurdly obvious statement because well, it IS a town in Spain, I honestly couldn’t think of a more perfect way to describe it… for the beauty of this place lies within its quiet simplicity.
In the midst of the “COVID years” when travel restrictions were finally beginning to lift and the doors to other countries were welcoming back desperate travelers I bought a non-refundable roundtrip ticket from LAX - MAD, begged my mother to come with me and the next thing I know we’re planning a 3 week trip in less than a week.
Luckily my mom is a tremendous researcher and travel planner, literally spending hours upon hours, from her first sip of coffee in the morning to her last drop of her evening wine glass (or glasses) hooked on the computer discovering the oh so many places we can go and the things we can do that fall away from the typical touristy bore. Sure enough the discovery of this “town in Spain” is definitely a consequence of her hyper-focused, impossible to multitask mind and one that I am happy to have experienced with her.
Jiménez de Jamuz is a seemingly ordinary town and it might as well be so, but it also is one of those places whose silence penetrates and resonates so deeply. I don’t mean it an intimidating kind of way, instead it felt more like an offering, a gift that asks for nothing in return. Only a 3 hour northwest drive from Madrid this little haven is well worth a nice drive and an overnight stay.

This won’t be a hard decision. First because it is one of the only two places to stay in this town and second because it is the most charming bed & breakfast I have every stayed at. When we arrived, they welcomed us like we were family members whom they hadn’t seen in such a long time and had finally come home. The moment I stepped foot there, I turned to my mom and said, “I never want to leave.” Besides the beautiful energy this space embodies, it is also clean, comfortable and the breakfast spread is delicious.
